I was obsessed with them back in the day and came across this fitting video to send off the weekend to. So get up, get down and go out have some fun this holiday weekend. Enjoy!

As a child, there were few movies I loved more than “Footloose”. In fact, I made my mother bring me to see it multiple times in the theater just so I could dance in the aisles and its soundtrack will be one of my favorite albums ever. And as I grew up and could actually understand the plot line, I appreciated the movie even more. It went above and beyond the typical teen rebellion flicks from the 1980′s and hit upon an issue which could hit home for so many people out there. So it pains me to know Hollywood will be remaking another one of my favorite flicks. Originally, Zac Efron, my tween crush, was supposed to take the reins from Kevin Bacon and play the bad boy rebel Ren McCormack who brings mayhem to his new quiet and holier than thou town. Sadly, Efron pulled out to avoid his being typecast as the musical actor and they had to begin the search once again. I personally liked their next choice to lead the movie, but this got the kibosh too.

Unfortunately, the execs seemed to
think Chase Crawford could fill Bacon’s shoes on this, giving him the lead role. Efron I could see in this role because he has a certain charm to him and he can dance, but Crawford is just a wet blanket and has zero personality. And since the director Kenny Ortega, who directed the “High School Musical” franchise, has turned this remake into a full blown musical, Crawford better have an amazing voice to carry his character. This will most likely be a disaster with him in the lead role, but as long they cast the part of Ariel a bit better, it might not be “Justin and Kelly” bad. Miley Cyrus, Julianne Hough and Hayden Panettierre are all in talks to fill in Lori Singer’s role as Ariel Moore, the daughter of the bible thumping preacher who removes dancing, singing and music from the small town. I think Hough is quite a natural fit there, since she is a supreme dancer and a wonderful singer, but I am afraid if she is cast this will turn into a countrified version of the original, with Rascal Flats covering classic Kenny Loggins songs, like “I’m Free”, which will make me very angry. And while the theme of the movie, teenage rebellion, religious overlords and dance fever is actually pretty timely to America, I still don’t want anyone messing with this soundtrack. So let’s watch the video now and hope the execs over at Paramount Pictures really don’t screw this one up to much.

So let’s instead end the night hanging out with Bert and Ernie while they freestyle a bit. On a side note, this is the third time I will be posting a YouTube clip of Bert and Ernie on this blog, which is almost as upsetting as my new crush on a JFK murdering, attempted rapist who lusts after wet Vietnamese blood. Enjoy!

Nothing really is sacred in Hollywood anymore. Yesterday it was announced that Universal as part of their partnership with Hasbro will remake the classic film “Clue”.

Every gosh darn day there is something from my childhood being taken from me and remade and I am not sure if I can take this anymore. Earlier this month, we told you about Universal’s optioning of “Candy Land” into a future full length movie, which I didn’t have a problem with. In fact, I am pretty intrigued on what they will do with this. But “Clue” is perfect just the way it is. It’s a perfect 80’s caper-style comedy and it showcases the rare gem that Madeline Kahn was.

The remake will be directed and produced by Gore Verbinski, the man behind “Pirates of the Caribbean”. It will be fourth board game from Hasbro that Universal will be adapting to big screen versions. The basic plot of the movie/game is the viewers/players take on the task of figuring who done in it in a twist filled murder mystery. Word is that this version will be darker than the original, which had a sort of Mel Brooks feel to it. While the original might not have been a box office smash, it had a second life with its omnipresence on cable movie channels and now on DVD. I could see people like Parker Posey and David Cross involved in this version, a virtual who’s who of the snarky comedic scene. Unfortunately, if they decide to go with a more thriller version of the game, this might end up being some sad horror movie.

In other crazy remake news, Warner Brothers and Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company is interested in remaking the 80’s children’s classic The NeverEnding Story”. It will be a “modernization” of the classic fantasy flick and will not deviate to great from the original. No writers are attached at this time. And if that wasn’t bad enough, there are plans to remake “Robo-Cop” and one of my favorite movies of all time “Total Recall”. It won’t take much to make my brain turn to mush if they screw that one up. But I do wonder if Governor Schwarzenegger would make an appearance in the new version? That might be interesting enough not to protest it.

Oh happy day. I am not sure if 2009 can get any better tour wise, but I beg it to attempt to prove me wrong. Well at least if you grew up in the 80’s it is. First, Jane’s Addiction announced it would bring the original line up back together for a U.S. tour with Nine Inch Nails (YARGH!!!!). Then Depeche Mode had to one them up and announce a deluxe box set and a studio album. There is a confirmed Faith No More reunion tour in Europe and I can only pray that this will come to America, specifically NYC. And then Depeche Mode announced their own U.S. tour for this summer. Okay, I think the only way this could get any better is if Blur, Soundgarden and The Smiths all decided to go on tour together. Um Kim Thayil, you hear me????? I can only say that the 13 year old goth-alterna teen in me is way too excited for these upcoming shows.

Anyways, Jane’s Addiction is supposedly now playing a show at SXSW next month in Austin, along with Metallica, and there are still many rumors floating around about Coachella’s lineup being updated to a few “surprise” reunions: Mike Patton, Morrissey and Perry Farrell will be there – who is to say something won’t happen. To get yourself psyched even further, check out Depeche Mode’s new video “Wrong” from the upcoming album, Sounds Of The Universe, which hits the US shores on April 21st. Enjoy.

Um am I the only one who doesn’t think making “Candy Land” into a movie is a bad idea??? Well, apparently not, since Universal Pictures just tapped Etan Cohen, from Tropic Thunder fame, to scribe the screenplay and Kevin Lima, best known for Enchanted, to direct the live-action big screen take on the children’s board game. This will be the third movie based on a Hasbro product that Universal will be producing, after their deal with the childrens’ consumer product company last February.

I think this idea could go to so many different places. It seems from the studio’s talent picks that it will aim to be more kid friendly, but I would love to see what a subversive director, like Tim Burton or Spike Jonze, would do with this concept.

It’s a bit embarrassing, but I used to get a bit scared when my friends or I would hit on a box near Lord Licorice or the Molasses dude? This could be like Willy Wonka meets <a href=” http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113497/”>Jumanji, but hopefully better than the latter. Whichever style, I am incredibly excited to see what these two men do with this concept.
