Song of the Day – “Summer Vacation” by The Party

If you were a tween girl in the early 1990′s, odds are you will remember the band The Party. A pop group bred from the Mickey Mouse Club 2.0, they had were the perfect tweeny bopper pop group, with songs about girlfriends, summer vacation and lost love. I was obsessed with them back in [...]

Hollywood Continues to Disappoint With the Remake of “Footloose”

As a child, there were few movies I loved more than “Footloose”. In fact, I made my mother bring me to see it multiple times in the theater just so I could dance in the aisles and its soundtrack will be one of my favorite albums ever. And as I grew up and could actually [...]

This never gets old.

This really should be a review of “Watchmen”, but I am still attempting to wrap my brain around all three hours I spent in a theater on Saturday. And also avoiding the quickly materializing crush on Edward Blake or “The Comedian”.

So let’s instead end the night hanging out with Bert and Ernie [...]

Dear Hollywood, Stop Remaking My Favorite Things…

Nothing really is sacred in Hollywood anymore. Yesterday it was announced that Universal as part of their partnership with Hasbro will remake the classic film “Clue”.
clue-21
Every gosh darn day there is something from my childhood being taken from me and remade and I am not sure if I can take this anymore. Earlier this month, we told you about Universal’s optioning of “Candy Land” into a future full length movie, which I didn’t have a problem with. In fact, I am pretty intrigued on what they will do with this. But “Clue” is perfect just the way it is. It’s a perfect 80’s caper-style comedy and it showcases the rare gem that Madeline Kahn was.

The remake will be directed and produced by Gore Verbinski, the man behind “Pirates of the Caribbean”. It will be fourth board game from Hasbro that Universal will be adapting to big screen versions. The basic plot of the movie/game is the viewers/players take on the task of figuring who done in it in a twist filled murder mystery. Word is that this version will be darker than the original, which had a sort of Mel Brooks feel to it. While the original might not have been a box office smash, it had a second life with its omnipresence on cable movie channels and now on DVD. I could see people like Parker Posey and David Cross involved in this version, a virtual who’s who of the snarky comedic scene. Unfortunately, if they decide to go with a more thriller version of the game, this might end up being some sad horror movie.

Could 2009 Get Any Better For Us Alterna Fans?

Oh happy day. I am not sure if 2009 can get any better tour wise, but I beg it to attempt to prove me wrong. Well at least if you grew up in the 80’s it is. First, Jane’s Addiction announced it would bring the original line up back together for a U.S. tour with [...]

Candy Land…The Movie?

candyland4
Um am I the only one who doesn’t think making “Candy Land” into a movie is a bad idea??? Well, apparently not, since Universal Pictures just tapped Etan Cohen, from Tropic Thunder fame, to scribe the screenplay and Kevin Lima, best known for Enchanted, to direct the live-action big screen take on the children’s board game. This will be the third movie based on a Hasbro product that Universal will be producing, after their deal with the childrens’ consumer product company last February.

I think this idea could go to so many different places. It seems from the studio’s talent picks that it will aim to be more kid friendly, but I would love to see what a subversive director, like Tim Burton or Spike Jonze, would do with this concept.
