It’s here! When I heard that they were going to make a film based on the hilarious SNL “MacGruber” sketches, I wasn’t sure what to think. In typical movie adaptation of a one minute skit style, MacGruber could be hysterical or it could be a tragedy to my sense of humor. I was hoping for more of an Anchorman feel, but from the freshly released trailer it seems that the movie will definitely be much more along the lines of Get Smart with Steve Carrell. And it costars Val Kilmer as the villain, which makes an automatic classic in my book. The movie doesn’t hit theaters till April of this year, so we have plenty of time to assume if this will be a box office success or not. Check out the trailer after the jump.

Yes, after seeing the trailer we can all yammer on and on about how similar this “out of my league” territory is and how we might be over it, but……. it has Jay Baruchel. In a starring role no less? How can you hate anything having to do with this adorable man? She’s Out of My League stars Baruchel as a TSA agent, who is beyond down on his luck with ladies and is destined to settle with his evil ex girlfriend. That is until luck intervenes and sends a beautiful and way out of his league airline passenger his way when he happens to find her lost iPhone (nice product placement) at a security check point. What follows is your typical boy pining for girl, girl pining for the safe choice romantic comedy, with the obligatory silly friends for him, sassy friends for her and the agro ex boyfriend who wants to get her back. The trailer makes this appear more American Pie than Knocked Up, but Im just so stoked Baruchel, whom I have loved since “Undeclared“, is getting closer and closer to leading man territory. And no this film was not written, directed or produced by Judd Apatow. It hits theaters in March of this year.

Here it is folks, the new trailer for the Sex and the City sequel. Its full of lavish trips, fancy soirees and uber expensive clothes and accessories – so a perfect film during a recession. Oh I kid SJP because I know my ass will be in the theater, wearing some sort of high heel, drinking a cosmo in a Taco Bell cup and really hoping Big can “Carrie On!” when this comes out in May. See what I did here?

This show, at one point, as my favorite program ever. It was once about women, attempting to “find” their power, through relationships with men, women and their friends. They struggled in one of the toughest cities in the world and still found happiness. This trailer resembles a bizarro international caper from the 1960’s. I’ll reserve any real judgement until I see the movie, but if its anything like the last one, you know a complete departure from the original series and lacking in certain cast members, I will be severely pissed. You’ve been warned. Now check out the teaser trailer.

The highly anticipated biopic on the all girl rock band who put a strangle hold on the music industry in the late 1970’s has finally hit the web. And if these clips are any indication, Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning and the rest of the ladies fully embodied what it takes to be in The Runaways. The film will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival next month and hits theaters nationwide in March 2010. Rumors are the film’s director wasn’t the most pleasant to work with, but from the small teaser clip here, I think we might have a great biopic. Check out the trailer…..

If you are a follower of Jason Reitman on Twitter, you will know how much time he has put into completing his latest effort Up in the Air. Based loosely on the Walter Kirn novel of the same name,Up in the Air follows the life and beliefs of Ryan Bingham, played by George Clooney, a downsizing specialist, who prefers to live life on the road, alone and with no personal attachments. Of course, life can’t always be as simple as you would prefer it and we watch as relationships form around him, as well as with him and what those changes mean to his life.

Reitman surprised attendees at the Telluride Film Festival with a preview of the film this past weekend. Telluride is a special place to Reitman because this is also where he previewed the critically acclaimed Juno, which began the Oscar buzz before the little movie was even released. The movie will also be part of the stellar lineup for the Toronto International Film Festival, which begins tomorrow and runs through the 19th. So to increase the already heightened buzz for this film, Paramount Pictures has released an exclusive teaser trailer to /Film.com. The film has been receiving rave reviews, even in its early stages and the Oscar buzz for Clooney and Reitman has already begun. And from the teaser trailer alone, I can understand how people are easily falling in love with this film.

When it comes to “The Hill”s, I feel like Al Pacino in the Godfather II because every time I think I’m over this show “they pull me back in”. And the “they” I’m speaking of are the magical elves who edit a season worth of eye rolling, back stabbing, dramaz and chic LA eateries into a three minute clip that has me curled up on the floor counting the days until this shit shack starts up all over again.

I promised myself that after last year’s season, where we watched Speidi become one in the eyes of God and 30 paparazzi photogs and Lauren Conrad, the star of the show, set sail into bigger and better pastures, I would NOT be returning for the next season of the reality-soap. But then Kristin Cavallari came back into the picture and I knew there would be nothing that could stop me from returning to the drug that is “The Hills”. Earlier this week MTV released a trailer for the newest season, declaring “The Bitch is Back” and I couldn’t be more stoked (DONT JUDGE ME!!!). Cavallari has always been an ace in hole when it comes to bringing drama to an MTV reality program and she was the only reason I ever tuned into the “OC” rip-off, “Laguna Beach”. And I love how MTV isn’t even hiding the fact that this show is no longer reality, but really an updated evening soap opera for all us under the age of 35. This season, we will watch as Spencer wears a cowboy hat, the other Montag moving into boozeville, Audrina and her tatted sister rolling their eyes, Lo grabbing camera time and Cavallari bringing the fun back to Los Angeles. And if she has to sleep with Justin Bobby to do it, so be it.

My love for Mike Judge began early on, like most of my generation, with his animated duo “Beavis & Butthead”. You might remember them from back in the day when MTV was all about being on the cutting edge, alternative media and rockers? Well anyways, the two metal heads haven’t been heard from in awhile, but they returned to the forefront to assist Judge in promotion for his latest comedy “Extract”. The boys did a little fireside chat review of the movie, discussing the important plot points of big boobs, pool boys and boning. Man, I’ve missed these dillweeds. Anyways, the film looks great, mainly because Judge really has an ability to mock the ridiculousness that is business and office life like no other. He also has a way of telling stories about regular people in an interesting way.

Thanks to my friends over at Miramax, I will be viewing this film tomorrow and luckily meeting Mike Judge himself. So of course, Friday will essentially be “Extract” day here at The Spielster, which is convenient since thats the day it opens in theaters nationwide! In the meantime, check out Beavis and Butthead doing their thing. Oh and don’t worry, I will pressure Judge into reviving these characters in some sort of media vehicle a lot tomorrow night.

Also if you are in the NYC area, Whitney, the pop culture goddess behind Pop Candy, will be doing a Q&A with Mike Judge at the Soho Apple Store tonight at 7PM! More details on this here.

Michael Cera continues his awkward character streak with his portrayal of Nick Twisp, a 16 year old boy who creates an alternate persona to get the girl of his dreams, Sheeni. Based on the novel series by C.D. Payne “Youth in Revolt”, this little comedy has a stellar cast, with Steve Buscemi, Jean Smart, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Long and Ray Liotta alongside Cera for the ride. What do you think? Is it time Cera hangs up the hoodies or is he just getting started with his adorably awkward self?

As a kid, I wanted to be a roller derby queen. Not sure how I fell in love with it, but I am still mad at myself for not dusting off my roller skates and getting down to business when derbies became all the rage a few years back. So I am pretty stoked to see the directorial debut of Drew Barrymore that follows the life of an alterna teen who dreams of being a derby queen herself. “Whip It” follows the Bliss, played by Ellen Page, an edgey teen whose family moves to small town Bodeen, Texas and her struggle to leave southern beauty nonsense behind and join a roller derby crew. Barrymore also stars in this flick, as one of Bliss’ derby teammates, along with Juliette Lewis, Kristen Wiig, Eve, Zoe Bell and my friend Har Mar Superstar.

From the trailer, it looks like this could much more than just your average coming of age alternateen comedy. And while I can see this becoming more of an hour and half infomercial on how to be edgy and hip for teens, like when Brenda Walsh went all hippie poet on 90210, I can’t help but get excited whenever a movie is more focused on the story of a teen girl coming into her own, as opposed to being liked or dating a boy. It will also be interesting to see what Barrymore has done with her first directing effort with such a strong female driven comedic cast. What do you think of the trailer? Will you be checking out “Whip It”?
