The OSCARS Bring It…….

Lets start at the beginning….

This weekend I managed to find myself on the island of no channel 7, aka ABC. Yes, you heard correctly. Thanks to an horrific who-has-the-bigger-balls and wants-to-make-more-money-while-laying-off-thousands battle between Cablevision (the local network here) and ABC/Disney kept me from watching the Oscars in the comfort of my in-laws home, so I ventured [...]

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

We are just a few days away (more on that later) from The Oscars. So to prepare yourself for the tears, off-the-cuff remarks and overall blandness that will come along with one of the most predictable ceremonies in recent memory, the internet (CopyRightHater) put together a lovely look back at some previous Thank Yous. Enjoy and [...]

And the Nominations Go To….

Well this morning was a real snoozefest in regards to the Oscar nominations. With the field of Best Picture opening up to ten nominees this year, there was high anticipation in what would find its way into the coveting category along with shoo-ins Avatar, The Hurt Locker and Inglorious Basterds. Sadly, the opening of the category did not lend itself to a more varied or interesting competition, as fare like The Blind Side, virtually a Lifetime Movie, got a nod. Nominees after the jump. The Awards Shows are coming, the Awards Shows are coming!!!

Ahh…its that time of year again. I can feel it in the air. Binging, purging, spray tans, tequila and the slightest hint of phoniness must mean that this weekend is the big day in Los Angeles. Yep that’s right it’s Oscar time. I felt stiffed with the Best Picture category nominees, so its a bit hard to get jazzed up about it all. But that doesn’t mean I will not be celebrating with a little get together and live blogging/twittering the event.

I meant to discuss my picks for the winners a while back with the few big categories, but I have been completely side tracked and can’t believe this weekend is upon us already. Its almost pointless at this time to discuss proposed winners because nearly every category is sewn up. But for the big ones, I wanted to chat a bit about who I THINK should win.

Let’s get to the big one right away – More on The Awards Shows are coming, the Awards Shows are coming!!! after the JUMP

Let’s Get to the Oscar Nomineess Backlash!!!!

Ok so I’ll just get to it because this morning I was pissed when I heard the Oscar nominations! I understand that the Oscars are supposed to reward the greatest movie of the year, but this year’s nominations didn’t really make much sense to me, especially within the Best Picture department. The true winners today were those involved in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, who raked in 13 nominations, including Best Picture and “Slumdog Millionaire” the little hit from Danny Boyle, which pulled in 10 nominations, also including Best Picture.

I thought that the Academy was ballsy with their choices for the Supporting Actor and Actress and Best Actor categories. With Heath Ledger practically a shoe-in for a posthumous Oscar in the Supporting Actor category, the Academy was able to bring four other actors into the fold who might have not have been recognized in years past. Michael Shannon’s nod for his scene stealing role in “Revolutionary Road” was a refreshing surprise and it was lovely to see a comedic role rewarded with Robert Downey Jr.’s turn in “Tropic Thunder”. The Supporting Actress group was a bit of a downer for me, with Rosemarie DeWitt not being nominated for her wonderful performance opposite Best Actress nominee Anne Hathaway in “Rachel’s Getting Married”.
