Jon Stewart Gets All “Fair & Balanced”

Wherever my political alliances lie, I have to say that the idea of a cable news network continuously providing only ONE side of the political story can not be deemed “fair and balanced”. With Palindemoneum taking over America, specifically in areas where they consider reporting first and knowledge second, it seems that whatever comes out of [...]

Please Watch “Hope for Haiti Now” Telethon Tonight

Before you watch Conan O’Brien signing off from “The Tonight Show” one last time, please spend your TV watching hours doing some good. The much anticipated “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon, which was orchestrated by George Clooney and sponsored by MTV Networks, will begin broadcasting this evening at 8PM EST. Similar to the telethons that were produced in the wake of tragedies and disasters like 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina, musical acts and celebrities will perform and take donation calls to assist relief efforts and non-profits sending much needed help to Haiti. The program will be broadcast on most major networks as well as streamed live on YouTube. And beginning tomorrow, all of the performances will be available for download on iTunes, with all of the proceeds donated to Hope for Haiti. If you would like to go ahead and donate right now, you can log onto HopeForHaitiNow.org or call (877) 99-HAITI to make a contribution via phone.

Still Drama at the NBC…..

Lord, its hard out there for a host. This drama going on over at NBC is really reaching a new level. Late yesterday, we heard that Jay Leno has negotiated a deal with NBC to take back “The Tonight Show” at 11:35PM. The deal is allegedly still in the works, as Conan O’Brien declared earlier [...]

These colors don’t…

0310-911memorial
I have been holding off all day to write something about September 11th. It’s one of those things, as a New Yorker that is difficult to move past and yet even more of an obstacle to delve into. I have read some truly amazing and personal pieces online today from news sources and Tumblr accounts. People sharing their experiences from that day, be it from a building down the block from the Twin Towers or across the country in Los Angeles. As a NYC resident, there are reminders every where, from the train line missing a stop, the still empty pit where two massive buildings once stood, the constant police drills, 9/11 bumper stickers, memorial tattoos and other things that seem to immortalize that day beyond just the history.

“Where the Wild Things Are” Poster Hits The Web…

If this poster doesn’t get you excited for the upcoming live action version of “Where the Wild Things Are”, I don’t know what will. A Spike Jonze fan site has been on the lookout for images for the adaptation of the beloved children’s novel and they found this poster within Nickelodeon’s Nick Magazine. The [...]

Rihanna Photo’s Released Shows Us a Whole Bigger Issue?

Here we go. I have had reservations on getting into this topic here on Spielster. I discussed it briefly after The Grammys because it was way too big of a story to just let slip by. Personally, the heaviness and reality of this story is one that can no longer be skirted by myself, so I apologize to anyone who just wants a fun little Friday post.

Last night, TMZ, of course, posted a photograph of Rihanna, which was apparently leaked to them by members of the LAPD. The picture, which yes I have seen, but will not be posting here, is a very sad one and it showcases the many bruises and lacerations allegedly given to the singer on the eve of the Grammys by her boyfriend Chris Brown.

At first, I wasn’t sure what to feel about the picture being everywhere, the near animalistic glee some bloggers and people in the media had for putting it on their site or covering it in their stories. It’s bothersome to many that an assault of this caliber could be so mishandled and that because the victim in question happens to be a celebrity they are not afforded the same rights to privacy that you and I would have if we were in a similar situation. There is a huge part of me that believes these pictures should have never been shown to the public. More on Rihanna Photo’s Released Shows Us a Whole Bigger Issue? after the JUMP
