Betty White Brings the Funny and Ratings to SNL

If you were anything like half of the folks on the internet then you were looking forward to Betty White hosting the Mother’s Day episode of ‘Saturday Night Live‘. The sexy senior, who has FINALLY been getting the respect she so surely deserves, brought it this Saturday. Originally when Lorne Michaels and Co. caved into the interweb demands from the public and gave White a chance to host ‘SNL’, it turned out she wouldn’t be alone. Perhaps to avoid tiring the 88-year-old comedian with a hosting responsibility, a slew of former SNLers came back with a fully focused ladies night over at 30 Rock. Rachel Dratch, Ana Gasteyer, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph and Molly Shannon came back to the place they once called home to participate in the special SNL, alongside comedy legend White. But if you were paying attention Saturday, and it seemed that everyone tuned in, it was proven that age ain’t nuthin but a number and White could hold her own until 1AM. White was the focus of almost all the skits this weekend and I can’t think of one that didn’t score big in the laughter category. Personally, I can’t remember laughing that hard for an hour and half straight in a very long time. And apparently I wasn’t the only one since the May 8th episode of SNL scored its highest ratings in a year and a half, making it fall just short of the historic pre-’08 election episode.

See SNL – all you need is Betty White and a few of your former cast members to bring the funny and the ratings. While there wasn’t a bum skit in the bunch, I can’t possibly post every video from that night. So here are my top 5, in no particular order, as well as the funny skits that were actually cut in dress rehearsal. More on Betty White Brings the Funny and Ratings to SNL after the JUMP

COCO is No Longer Looking For Work

Woohoo! TBS, in an attempt to prove to us that they are in fact “Very Funny”, has officially added Conan O’Brien to its roster. The comedian will once again join the late night fold with a nightly hour-long program, set to air at 11PM, beginning this November. Currently, George Lopez has the time slot on basic [...]

Betty White (and others) to Host SNL

Woohoo! It only took 500k fans on Facebook and massive media coverage to make Lorne Michaels and the folks at SNL approach Betty White to host the show in April. According to Michael Ausiello at EW that there is a deal in the works to get Betty White to host the late night program. But, she [...]

Now This is a Wedding Band….

When Saturday Night Live is on, its on and the past two weeks have been pretty darn near classic episodes. Last week Jon Hamm visited and helped make one of the funniest episodes in years, with his skit as newly inaugurated Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown and in a perfect Digital Short with him as a sexy [...]

Why Saying Goodbye to Conan Was Difficult……

Sadly, tonight marked Conan O’Brien’s last night behind the desk of “The Tonight Show” and I’m not going to lie, I got teary eyed. After all the nonsense and all the snark going around the past couple of weeks regarding NBC’s Late Night Wars 2.0, there is something to be said about the goodbye O’Brien gave to his fans tonight. As a fan of Conans for years, it was incredibly touching to see how important the show, his staff and his fans are to him. To watch someone have to say goodbye to something that they had worked hard for years for and seemed to love every moment of was painful. Quite honestly, I will not be able to say it as eloquent as O’Brien said it himself, so here he is thanking everyone, including NBC, for their time and support over the years. Conan & NBC = DUNZO

Well its finally official. Like signed on the dotted line official. Conan O’Brien and NBC will no longer be working together. O’Brien has signed a $45 Million deal to vacate “The Tonight Show”, along with his 200 staffers. O’Brien’s last show will be this Friday night, with guests Tom Hanks, Will Ferrell (who might have cursed [...]

Still Drama at the NBC…..

Lord, its hard out there for a host. This drama going on over at NBC is really reaching a new level. Late yesterday, we heard that Jay Leno has negotiated a deal with NBC to take back “The Tonight Show” at 11:35PM. The deal is allegedly still in the works, as Conan O’Brien declared earlier [...]

Let’s All Gang Up on Leno

Well this seems to be the trend for late night hosts ever since the the NBC late night debacle became public knowledge. David Letterman, who had his own nasty battle with both NBC and Jay Leno during his bid for the hosting gig of “The Tonight Show” back in 1992, seemed gleeful when discussing the dramaz revolving around the much beloved program.

Now, Letterman probably knows better than anyone else what Conan is going through and this nonsense almost writes his nightly monologue, so I love hearing his take on it. And see, even he feels bad for Carson Daly.

But Letterman isn’t the only one poking the bear. Jimmy Kimmel started off his program last night with a monologue as Jay Leno, even mimicking Leno’s voice and handshakes. Kimmel is another character who loves ripping on the peacock network and it can’t hurt that his competition is getting manhandled by their own network like this.
