The OSCARS Bring It…….

Lets start at the beginning….

This weekend I managed to find myself on the island of no channel 7, aka ABC. Yes, you heard correctly. Thanks to an horrific who-has-the-bigger-balls and wants-to-make-more-money-while-laying-off-thousands battle between Cablevision (the local network here) and ABC/Disney kept me from watching the Oscars in the comfort of my in-laws home, so I ventured [...]

And the Nominations Go To….

Well this morning was a real snoozefest in regards to the Oscar nominations. With the field of Best Picture opening up to ten nominees this year, there was high anticipation in what would find its way into the coveting category along with shoo-ins Avatar, The Hurt Locker and Inglorious Basterds. Sadly, the opening of the category did not lend itself to a more varied or interesting competition, as fare like The Blind Side, virtually a Lifetime Movie, got a nod. Nominees after the jump. Looking at the “Up in the Air” Teaser Trailer

If you are a follower of Jason Reitman on Twitter, you will know how much time he has put into completing his latest effort Up in the Air. Based loosely on the Walter Kirn novel of the same name,Up in the Air follows the life and beliefs of Ryan Bingham, played by George Clooney, a [...]

The Oscars Came and Went…

So they came and they went, but the Oscars were surprisingly entertaining. I know I promised some liveblogging, but unfortunately, my party got off to a late start and I was fearful of just turning my computer on and finding out Cruz had won.

Hugh Jackman excelled as the host, with his song and [...]

Can I be friends with Mickey Rourke, please?

Oh man, so as always, yesterday’s IFC/FIlm Independent Spirit Awards were hilarious. Steve Coogan brought it as the host with his raunchy humor and the winners were actually appreciative of getting their awards. Personally, this shit always looked alot more fun to be a part of than the Oscars, since you don’t need to be in [...]

The Awards Shows are coming, the Awards Shows are coming!!!

Ahh…its that time of year again. I can feel it in the air. Binging, purging, spray tans, tequila and the slightest hint of phoniness must mean that this weekend is the big day in Los Angeles. Yep that’s right it’s Oscar time. I felt stiffed with the Best Picture category nominees, so its a bit hard to get jazzed up about it all. But that doesn’t mean I will not be celebrating with a little get together and live blogging/twittering the event.

I meant to discuss my picks for the winners a while back with the few big categories, but I have been completely side tracked and can’t believe this weekend is upon us already. Its almost pointless at this time to discuss proposed winners because nearly every category is sewn up. But for the big ones, I wanted to chat a bit about who I THINK should win.

Let’s get to the big one right away – More on The Awards Shows are coming, the Awards Shows are coming!!! after the JUMP

The Golden Globes usher in Awards season for The Spielster…

golden_globe
So I think it is perfect that my first real post within the New Year on my new site SPIELSTER.com is about last night’s Golden Globes. I adore the Golden Globes as an award show, because I feel like it’s the only one that allows the audience at home to enjoy the night. Its comfortable, with all the stars sitting together at tables that could resemble what I imagine a banquet hall on a Norwegian Cruise line would look like and them drinking the bubbly all night and mingling. It also celebrates the majors in each category within film and TV, so its much easier to pay attention too without all that awarding cinematic excellence for the lighting of trolls or something that the Oscars does.
