As I noted on Jezebel, it wasn’t the junk in his system that killed him, as much as the junk in his head. Breaking physical addiction is sometimes easier than breaking psychological addiction, especially when your life is rife with associations to that behavior. Every time he tried to immerse himself in acting, the demon would rise again, and in the end, he couldn’t beat it.

News media is inherently unfair and unbalanced — the media is trying tell us about things they think we should know about, not what we actually want to know about. These are not the days of Cronkite and Murrow when it comes to news; news is entertainment now, and ratings are more important than the factual content or the questions being asked. Fox News can continue to skate by because they have convinced so many people they are “fair and balanced,” simply by repeating that tired cant over and over again, until it sticks in people’s heads. Josef Goebbels taught us all how propaganda works.
