Conan &NBC = DUNZO

Well its finally official. Like signed on the dotted line official. Conan O’Brien and NBC will no longer be working together. O’Brien has signed a $45 Million deal to vacate “The Tonight Show”,along with his 200 staffers. O’Brien’s last show will be this Friday night, with guests Tom Hanks,Will Ferrell (who might have cursed O’Brien to begin with),Neil Young and I’m sure tons of more surprise guests wanting to say goodbye the classy way.

Negotiations went into last night as O’Brien was attempting to get more money for a severance packages for his 200 staffers, most who moved their lives and family to Los Angeles when he got the gig early last year. And while NBC finally gave in to ponying up more money,O’Brien will be supplementing the payout so his staffers are more than compensated for their time. Per the agreement,NBC will now own majority of the skits O’Brien created while on their network and will be unable to return to a full time TV gig until September 1st of this year. The network also announced that Jay Leno will resume his spot as host beginning March 1st and in the meantime they will be playing repeats of O’Briens “Tonight Show”. Last night,O’Brien poked fun at the network,as he had been doing since the whole brouhaha began two weeks ago and brought on friend Adam Sandler as one of his final guests. Sandler, who has issues with NBC in the past, did not hold back while taking the network to task for treating O’Brien so poorly. Sandler discussed his and Chris Farley’s firing from Saturday Night Live in the mid-90′s and explained what NBC really stood for.

O’Brien also brought out long lost pal,the Masturbating Bear, who has not been seen since his move to “The Tonight Show”. Ed Helms and Joel McHale, both technical employees of NBC,came out and played along with tearing down the network and McHale offered his hosting gig at “The Soup”to Conan. Hilarity ensued. O’Brien also poked NBC and their money wasting ways with a segment that lasted nearly 30 seconds and cost about $1.5 Million, just for the heck of it. NBC removed the skit, but luckily Mediaite captured it in all its glory. So you have two more nights to see new “The Tonight Show”episodes with Conan O’Brien hosting. I am glad that this has finally come to a conclusion and we can move on with our lives,go back to hating Jay Leno for just not being funny and not feeling bad for multi-millionaires. On a serious tip though,O’Brien has always been one of my favorites, his wit and humor will be missed and I hope he comes back bigger and better. Because if NBC’s firing track records proves anything,if they don’t want you, like Sandler or Judd Apatow, there are millions of others who do.

The Spielster will cover O’Brien’s final episode this Friday.
