Top Five Christmas Specials!!!

Top Five Christmas Specials!!!

Christmas as a child was truly a magical time. I had VHS cassette after VHS cassette that had all of the important Christmas specials that used to be all over TV before cable got their mitts onto a few classic Christmas movies and ruined it for all of us. It’s still weird to me that time of year comes and goes without me watching any of my favorite programs from the past, but thanks to the glory of YouTube I was able to find them all this morning and have myself a lame Christmas special viewing party. And now so can you since I compiled my top five here for your viewing pleasure. Later,I will post my favorite holiday movies and songs. Enjoy…..

The first and what will forever remain my favorite is Jim Henson’s The Christmas Toy. It’s title is pretty explanatory, with it being about a child’s Christmas toy,but the actual story is so much more, digging deep into the feeling of loss that sometimes comes around the holidays. One of the best movies about Christmas and the real feelings behind it ever!

Now this is a golden oldie. Andy Williams, along with Bing Crosby was once the kind of Christmas specials and this is my favorite. Williams and a slew of the NBC All Star kids, like Soleil Moon-Frye,Joey Lawrence and the Cosby children join forces in the search for Santa Claus throughout the northern regions of Europe. Its cheesy and perfect for the holidays, including various other country celebrations of the day.

Check out the rest after the jump!

It’s not Christmas without a viewing of The Nutcracker and this version is my favorite. I can still remember running up to my bedroom to watch this while playing with one of my new dolls.

Christmas Comes But Once A Year is truly a Christmas classic and I haven’t seen it on a TV for about 20 years. When I was a child,it wasn’t officially the big day until I watched this back to back about fifteen times. I miss classic cartoons and animation.

And finally,. There is nothing better than the classic clay mation Christmas specials of yore to ring in this lovely day with your family.

What are your favorite specials and cartoons in celebration of today?
