What a freaking shit show this whole Chris Brown thing has been over the past 24 hours. Brown was forced to cancel his performance at last night’s Grammy award because of what was originally rumored to be a car accident the singer was in after a Clive Davis party on Saturday night. The story began to morph once it hit the reporters on the red carpet and Rihanna cancelled her performance last night as well.

News that Brown was actually named as an assailant in an assault incident against an “unnamed”female victim became the buzz as the night went on and with Rihanna’s noticeable absence,tongues began wagging. Chris turned himself into the LAPD by the time you and I were finding out that Robert Plant could be successful at other things than looking good in tight pants and singing for Led Zeppelin. The singer was charged with felonious assault with a deadly weapon and released on $50K bail late last night.

What we can piece together is that the couple were in a fight in Hancock Park sometime after the pre-Grammy Clive Davis’party on Saturday night and when it escalated to physical violence,witnesses contacted the police. Brown left the scene and police had issued a warrant for his arrest. To avoid further embarrassment,Mark Geragos,Brown’s lawyer,recommended the singer turn himself and get booked. Rihanna is reportedly still in the hospital,suffering injuries and bruises from the incident. Witnesses from within the hospital Rihanna is being treated at report that the pop star was visible shaken,bruised and obviously in pain.

At this point,Brown’s Wrigley Gum ads have been pulled and postponed until the matter is further looked into and Rihanna’s people are keeping a tight lip on this one. And of course,every tabloid outlet is outpouring with “Trouble in Paradise” story lines of the young couple. They have already,within the 24 hour news cycle,received comparisons to fellow dysfunctional and pop couples like Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown. Whatever the situation is,I do hope that the issue is handled in a proper way,that Rihanna gets better and that if she was in fact abused,that she dumps the asshole and makes it apparent that domestic abuse can rear its ugly head in any relationship. I agree with Wrigley on suspending the commercial,but lets hold off on the crucifixion until another 24 hours news cycle informs us of something else. Because if its true or not,this will weigh on the 19-year old’s career for its duration.
