Good news comic book and Billy Crudup fans! A statement released today announced that the dispute of the distribution of “Watchmen”has come to end! The Warner Bros. and Fox studios have been disputing over who actually has the rights to release and distribute the “Watchmen”film, based on Alan Moore’s critically acclaimed graphic novel. Fox filed suit against Warner Bros once they wrapped up production earlier last year on the highly anticipated adaptation, claiming they retained first rights to the flick, per their acquisition of the rights back in 1986. Both the studios have been battling in the courts for a few months on who actually has the right to distribute the film. According to a dual statement released today,WB will be able to release the film on March 6th,as originally planned. The agreement between the studios has Fox receiving an upfront payment anywhere from $5 to $10 Million, reimbursement of legal fees and gross participation, which will have Fox playing a role in the international box office, sequels and other spinoffs. The disagreement had Warner Bros struggling to set up a successful release calendar for 2009,which had to be strong after the huge success of WB’s The Dark Knight last year.
